Alfred Hitchcock

A short walk from the Kensington Court hotel lies the home of the famous English film director, Alfred Joseph Hitchcock. He lived at 153 Cromwell Road between 1926 and 1935, prior to moving to Los Angeles and the path to international success.

He made his first Hollywood film Rebecca  in 1940, which won the 'Oscar' Academy Award for the best picture. He went on to direct more than fifty films.  In the early 1960's he was at his most outstanding with the spine chilling scariness of  Psycho (1960), The Birds (1963) and Marnie (1964).

He combined the 'thriller genre' with a sly sense of humour which would often be revealed in his cameo appearances. He was certainly the master of suspense. In 1979 he received the American Film Institute's Life Achievement award just a few months before he passed away.
